Day 52

Today’s Takeaway: My morning routine! (Part 1)

Preface: I’m not a licensed medical professional. Although I used to study sports medicine & athletic training, I’m by no means an authority on physical fitness or general health & wellness. I’m simply sharing the routines & practices I have found helpful in restoring and sustaining my own mental & physical health. Please consult your health care professional if you decide to try anything I recommend in this post. Although most of the things I share carry no obvious risk, we must remember everyone’s health is different mentally, physically & emotionally. Please keep that in mind as you read. ♥️

Morning routine:

  • Wake up around the same time every weekday: Despite what I have going on that might enable me to stay in bed a bit, I get up. For me that’s between 6:30-7am. Having that 1/2 hour wiggle room allows my brain to feel like it’s gotten to hit the snooze, but I don’t. The night before I commit to a time - 6:30-6:45-7pm. Once the alarm sounds, covers go off & I’m up to start my day. (Weekends are fair game, sleep as long as your people will let you 😂.)

  • Sunlight before screenlight: For most people your phone is the first thing you look at in the morning & the last thing before you go to sleep. Our brains need a break. So for the first 1/2hr of every day, with the exception of turning off my alarm, I don’t look at my phone or turn on the tv. No scrolling, answering emails, checking social media, watching the news. Your morning sets the tone for your entire day, start with a little peace of mind. 😌

  • Drink 8-16oz of water: You’re body is dehydrated when you wake up. It’s the #1 reason people wake up cranky, with a headache, or just feel shitty in the morning. I keep a 16oz water bottle by my bed, when I wake up, before I leave my bed, I drink at least half.

  • Make my bed: Silly, right? Wrong! This simple act provides a quick sense of order, intention & accomplishment right at the start of your day. It’s has a lot more mental health benefits than you might realize.

  • Drink 8oz cup of warm water with lemon: Looking to kick your metabolism into high gear? Sip on this 1st thing. So many amazing health benefits & also another great way to get in that hydration. 😁

    Eat:
I know this one is probably like “uh, duh?” But so many people skip breakfast! It’s literally called Break - Fast…meaning your body is in fasting mode and it needs nutrition when you wake up. It also gives you the necessary energy to take on your day. Do yourself a favor and EAT!

Let’s be clear, I’m a work in progress. I’m also not invoking some infomercial persona and saying,” If these worked for me, they will work for you!” Some of you will relate with all of them, some will institute 1 or 2 & some might unfollow me because they don’t get it at all.

That’s all okay!

With these posts I’m just looking to share my experience & inspire change. Whatever that might look like for you. Good luck! ☘️
