Day 21
Today’s Takeaway: You’ll get where you’re meant to be.
I believe in fate. I think the things that happen in our life are meant to happen. There are no coincidences.
Now I know this is fantastical thinking. Most people would argue that your life course is based on the decisions you make. There is no grand plan.
I do agree with this argument too. The decisions you make matter. I just choose to believe those decisions will lead you on different paths, teaching you different lessons, but ultimately you will arrive at the same destination, surrounded by the people you are meant to live your life with.
A perfect example of my interpretation of fate is the movie, Sliding Doors. In the first scene of the movie Gwenyth Paltrow is getting ready to leave for work. She heads down to the subway and misses the train. She returns home to find her husband cheating on her. Then suddenly you’re back at the beginning of the movie, seeing her run for the subway, but this time she catches it. She makes it to work and never finds out that her husband is cheating. The movie then splits off, following these alternate realities. Demonstrating how that one event, of missing or making the train, dramatically impacted her life path.
Now you’re probably thinking, “Okay Liz, you just proved your naysayers right. Life is determined by a series of circumstances and decisions. No master design.”
Well, that’s not the end of the movie, or why I love it. Without sharing too much of a spoiler…In the end, no matter if she got on that train or not, she ended up exactly where she was meant to be. Fate found her, she just took slightly different paths to get there.
In times of struggle, like I have been experiencing recently, I sometimes forget or lose faith in fate. I start regretting decisions, or doubting myself. But believing in this theory of “destiny,” absurd as it may be, has gotten me through some of the hardest times of my life. It’s kept me positive that no matter what happens, I’ll get where I’m meant to be.
So for todays takeaway, whether you buy into it or not, I think everyone can benefit from a little fantastical thinking every now and then.
In that spirit, please accept this reminder: You’re okay. Trust your path. You’ll get where you’re meant to be. ❤️
